Essbase Course List
Hyperion
Essbase Bootcamp
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed to teach you the principal techniques and theory of Essbase System 9 database design, including outline design alternatives, data load, and metadata build automation. You use the Essbase Administration Services console interface for all course activities and the Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in for ad hoc report creation. The class includes a multi-day discussion on Essbase data structures and on creating, implementing, and optimizing calculation scripts. Exercises provide hands-on practice; case studies let you create a complete application.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Excel and k Knowledge of client-server application concepts.
Optional:
Attend Hyperion Essbase Fundamentals.
Course
Outline: Students learn about the essential Hyperion Essbase
subjects they need to know: Understanding outline design alternatives,
using load rules for outline maintenance and data loading and reporting
using the Hyperion Essbase spreadsheet add-in. In day three, the
course heats up with advanced Essbase subjects: Understanding sparse
and dense settings, data block and aggregate storage construction, and managing calculations
including calc script architecture, the most important calc functions
and dynamic calcs. Materials include many step-by-step procedures
for accomplishing critical tasks and plenty of advice for avoiding
the most common pitfalls.
The
course is intensively hands-on, using integrated case study materials
that let the student create a complete application during the week.
By day five, students are writing complex calc scripts for a complex
budget application that involves rate push downs and overhead allocations.
This
course is conducted using Hyperion Essbase System 9, and covers Version 7x and Version 6x. Feature differences are highlighted
throughout the course. (click here for

Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in: Create Spreadsheet Reports
Who Should Attend: Database administrators, end users and
reporting specialists who need to effectively report on data from
a Hyperion Essbase database.
Prerequisites:
Review the Hyperion Essbase Overview CD (provided upon enrollment).
A working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and a basic understanding
client server applications.
Optional:
Attend Hyperion Essbase Fundamentals.
Course
Outline: n this one day course, students learn the techniques
necessary to create basic and advanced reports using the Hyperion
Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in.
This
course is conducted using Hyperion Essbase System 9. Students whose companies
are using 7.x or 6.x may comfortably

Hyperion
Essbase For System Administrators
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed to teach you the administrative requirements of Hyperion Essbase. You learn how to configure the Essbase kernel; design and manage security; optimize system caches; perform backup, recovery, and migration; and ensure data integrity. You use Essbase Administration Services for most of the course activities, and then use the MaxL interface to practice task automation. Exercises and a case study provide hands-on practice.
The
course is designed for Hyperion Essbase Database Administrators
(DBAs) and System Administrators who set up, support and maintain
the Hyperion Essbase environment. The DBAs are the managers of the
Hyperion Essbase databases; they are technical personnel, skilled
in database maintenance and management. The System Administrators
may be implementing Hyperion Essbase System 9 for the first time, or
upgrading from Hyperion Essbase 7.x or 6.x. They are familiar with Windows
NT or UNIX administration or both. This course may also be attended
by Hyperion Essbase Developers. These are the power users who design,
develop and implement Hyperion Essbase databases and applications.
In this course, they will learn insights, tips and techniques for
improving performance and resource utilization. (click
here for detailed itinerary)
Prerequisites:
Participants need a working knowledge of Hyperion Essbase 6.x or
higher. They should have a general technical background as well
as a basic system administration background, at least. They must
have attended the Hyperion Essbase Fundamentals, Hyperion Essbase
7 Release Training or Bootcamp training (or have equivalent experience).
Course
Outline: The classroom instruction includes a variety of activities:
lectures, discussions, demonstrations and hands-on exercises.

Essbase Integration Services: Create and Manage Data Structures
Who Should Attend: Database Administrators (DBAs), system
administrators, and business users. DBAs and system administrators
use Essbase Integration Services to point to the relational database
source, create a star schema with the help of the OLAP Model component,
and save this metadata to OLAP metadata catalog. These technical
users understand the relational source data and are familiar with
both the traditional relational and star database schemas. The business
users use Essbase Integration Services to create the metaoutline
and to assign sophisticated calculations and aggregations to it.
These users might be DBAs, but are not required to understand the
source RDBMS. These users do, however, understand the Hyperion Essbase
outline and are usually familiar with the business processes that
the Hyperion Essbase applications address.
Prerequisites:
Review the Hyperion Essbase Overview CD (provided upon enrollment.
Knowledge of multidimensional databases and analysis concepts and
familiarity with basic relational database concepts. Experience
with Hyperion Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in.
Course
Outline: This course uses Hyperion Essbase System 9. All course exercises and demonstrations use the Essbase Administration Services interface. In this course you learn to convert relational data into multidimensional data by using Essbase Integration Services. You also learn the principal techniques for data denormalization and for the creation of online analytic processing (OLAP) models. You create fact tables and complete OLAP models from an existing relational store. The course describes the creation of multidimensional database outlines and data loading by using Essbase Integration Services. You also learn to enable hybrid analysis reporting functionality. Upon completion of the course, you should be able to explain the relationship between data warehouses and OLAP systems and be ready to implement techniques that leverage data warehouse and data mart investments into an OLAP solution. The course provides extensive exercises to reinforce the covered topics. (click here for detailed

Hyperion Essbase: Deploy Aggregate Storage Databases: (for version 7.1.2)
NOTE: This course covers the same content as the Hyperion Essbase 7X New Features course.
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed to teach you how to deploy aggregate storage databases in Hyperion Essbase. You learn the fundamental differences between block and aggregate storage databases and requirements for database design and deployment. The course also covers database partitioning as it relates to both block and aggregate storage databases and an introduction to the Hyperion Visual Explorer. The class finishes with an in-depth discussion of MaxL DML (MDX) scripting for queries and member formulae. Interactive exercises are presented throughout the course to reinforce concepts presented. (click here for detailed itinerary)
Prerequisites: Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Excel and hands-on experience with Essbase Administration Services console is recommended, as well as a working knowledge of Hyperion Essbase 6.x or higher. Attendees should have previously atended the Essbase Analytic Services Conceptual Overview or Essbase Bootcamp Part 1: Design, Build and Calculate Analytic Services Databases courses (or have equivalent experience).
